Modal Verbs (Modalverben)

Use-case

They are verbs are that indicate modality i.e. likelihood, permission, ability, obligation etc.

Example

Ich möchte Arzt werden.

• möchte $\to$ Modalverb
• werden $\to$ Hauptverb

Note

• The Modalverb takes the conjugation and leaves the Hauptverb to be an infinitive.
• The conjugation for “er/sie/es” is same as the “Ich”
  • eg: Er möchtet Arzt werden.
