Stems that end with consonants
- -d or -t Have an added e before the ending which makes it easier to pronounce Examples: du arbeitest, es kostet, ihr redet etc.
- -m or -n Also, has an added e Examples: es regnet, du atmest etc.
- -s, -ss, -ß, -x, -z, or -tz Ending for du is -t as -st is redundant. Examples: du reist, du heißt, du faxt etc.
Stems whose vowel changes
There is a finite group of irregular verbs where the vowel in the stem transform while being used as a verb.
- a ä du fährst, er/sie/es fährt etc.
- e i du gibst, er/sie/es gibt etc.
- e ie du siehst, er/sie/es/ sieht etc.
