Purpose and Use-case:
It is used to convey a completed task in the Past using an auxiliary verb (haben oder sein) and verb in Perfekt (Past-participle ex: gespielt, gegeben etc)
- Examples
- “Ich habe als Kind oft im Garten gespielt.” (I used to play in the garden a lot as a child.)
- “Ich habe Deutsch gelernt und kann jetzt fließend sprechen.” (I have learned German and can now speak it fluently.)
- “Ich habe gestern Abend ein Buch gelesen.” (I read a book yesterday evening.)
Out of the two ways of expressing sentences in the past:
- Perfekt: Informal
- Präteritum: Formal
